MALIBU, CA. (Hollywood Today) 6/23/08 – Fellow surfers took exception to paparazzi invading their beach to photograph Matthew McConaughey. A heated confrontation between several boarders and gathered paparazzi took place Saturday afternoon at Malibu’s Paradise Cove, allegedly ended in injuries and a ruined camera.
As photographers watched the ‘Dazed and Confused’ star navigate the waves, a group of beachgoers confronted them and ordered them to leave. According to the Associated Press, after exchanging words the surfers attacked at least one of the lensmen and threw his camera into the water. The paparazzo filed a police report following the incident.
McConaughey, 38, who was not involved in the melee, coincidentally appeared as himself in the film ‘Paparazzi’ in 2004. Produced by Mel Gibson, the film portrayed the popular actor seeking revenge on four tabloid photographers who caused his wife and child to be seriously injured in an automobile accident.
