Laura Vandervoort and Chris Carmack to also star in Jessica Alba sequel

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 5/17/08 – Hoping to turn the scenic Jessica Alba film “Into the Blue” into a DVD franchise “Bring It On” style, MGM Home Entertainment has begun filming the sequel to the 2005 hit in Hawaii.  Though Alba’s character won’t reappear, “Into the Blue 2” will feature gorgeous gossip magnet Audrina Patridge of MTV’s “The Hills” as a high-maintenance beach bunny, according to “The Hollywood Reporter.”

Also starring will be Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort, who is known for her role as Supergirl on “Smallville,” one of The CW’s teen staples, as well as her turn as big sister Sadie Harrison on cable network The N’s “Instant Star.”  She will portray the husband of Chris Carmack, who became a household name playing a nasty-elitist-turned-nice-guy on “The O.C.” and happened to have also appeared on “Smallville” in the past.

Unlike the first feature, where Alba and co-star Paul Walker played down-on-their-luck lovers searching on their own time for the remains of a fabled French treasure ship, Vandervoort and Carmack will play divers hired by a sinister wealthy couple to locate booty left behind by explorer Christopher Columbus.

“This is more of a suspense thriller,” Vandervoort told “TV Guide,” when asked how “Into the Blue 2” compared to its predecessor, but was quick to assure tongue-wagging fans of the original that “everyone is in bathing suits and stuff like that.”

Followers of ABC’s cryptic serial “Lost,” which also films in Hawaii, will recognize supporting player Marsha Thomason, who depicted short-lived mercenary Naomi on the popular series.  Castmate David Anders is no stranger to television audiences, either, having filled the role of resident villain on “Alias” and “Heroes.”

Rival movie studio Universal Pictures has had success releasing straight-to-video sequels to its well received 2000 cheerleader flick, “Bring It On,” which starred Kirsten Dunst and Eliza Dushku.  Carmack coincidentally had a small role in that series’ first home-video offering, “Bring It On Again,” which starred Bree Turner of “The Wedding Planner” and “Just My Luck.”
