HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 4/29/09 — Stone Temple Pilots/Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland has been sentenced to eight days in jail after pleading no contest to DUI.

The action comes after a bitter break with Velvet Revolver bandmates (see related HT stories) and the reformation of Stone Temple Pilots for what could be one of the top tours of the summer once the singer gets out of the pokey.

The former VR lead singer was also sentenced to four years probation and must take part in an 18-month alcohol program.

The 40-year-old was arrested in November 2007 after he crashed his car on a Los Angeles road.

Velvet Revolver split with Weiland over what they called his “erratic behavior” earlier this month.

He was charged with one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol with a prior conviction. He entered a no contest plea through his attorney, in court on Monday (April 28).

Besides the 18-month alcohol program he must $2,000 in fines.

He recently reformed 90s rockers Stone Temple Pilots – with whom he rose to fame.

Stone Temple Pilots are scheduled to embark on a 65-city tour on 17 May. Weiland must serve his jail time by May 28.

He has a history of drug problems and has been arrested several times on drug-related charges. The last time was in 2005.

In addition, he must serve four years probation. Stone temple pilots were scheduled to perform on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on May 2.

Weiland’s incarceration could hold up the beginning of the proposed and well anticipated US tour.
