HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 4/24/08 — Mariah Carey’s newest release ” E=MC2″ turned out to be a smart formula indeed, selling 463,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan. It knocked British singer Leona Lewis off the top off the charts.

Carey also scored the best first-week sales of the year so far, beating Jack Johnson’s Sleep Through The Static, which sold 375,000 back in February.

Lewis has dropped to number two, with Miley Cyrus in third place.

Touch My Body, from the new album, is the new number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and has also topped its download chart.

The achievement means she has now surpassed Elvis Presley’s 17 number ones. The Beatles are in front on 20.

E=MC2 is the sixth US number one album of Mariah Carey’s career, and follows her hit song Touch My Body, which recently became her 18th chart-topping single.
