HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 4/5/08 — Rapper-producer Jay Z had a big week. He made $150 million on a business deal, more importantly, longtime girlfriend Beyonce Knowles finally married him. She had been refusing for years. It had nothing to do with the money, both are independently wealthy from their music sales. But independent is the key word to describe Beyonce, she wanted that more than a ring.

Insiders say he always wanted to make it official, but she wanted to be known as her own woman, not the wife of a man who at different times ran record labels and made stars out of this singer or that. Sort of the opposite of Mariah Carey, who when married to label head Tommy Mottola, had that brought up in her face every time she had a hit single.

People Magazine broke the story they had tied the knot yesterday in a quiet NY ceremony. So far there is no official confirmation, but media stories are rampant and appear serious.

The ceremony was followed by a lavish party at the rapper’s Tribeca apartment that drew Beyoncé’s mother Tina Knowles, her father/manager Mathew, her sister Solange, her Destiny’s Child mates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, and the couple’s friend Gwyneth Paltrow.

As HT reported, the two obtained a wedding license on Tuesday. (See related story).

Early Friday morning, workers erected a white tent atop the building in Tribeca, where Jay-Z owns a penthouse apartment, according to People and MTV. Not long after, an SUV carrying what seemed to be AV equipment arrived, followed by deliveries of party rentals and flowers.

A couple since 2002, Jay-Z, 38, and Knowles, 26, always kept quiet about their relationship.

Congratulations to Jay Z and Beyonce Knowles. I always thought they made a great couple. Relationships are difficult to keep fresh, celebrity relationships are even more complicated.

    I wish them happiness forever.

I am happy for you both. Please drop the celebrity part of your lives and just love each other. The media will do what they can to make sure you both separate. I am yet to see two successful african americans that can sustain a long marriage. You both agreed to get married, so why not do it fo life. Grow old together. Those are the merits. It is you both that control your destiny. If you believe that no matter what the problem, you can work it out, then your marriage can last. When the problems come – Go to conselling!Once you both start having children, it is a new dynamics. So keep the love alive, be strong, be faithful, be good listeners, share and enjoy each other, communicate and most of all ” Never go to bed angry.

I would love to see you both 20yrs from now just glowing in your marriage. We all had the same dream when Whitney and Bobby came along! So live that dream and be role models for our kids. celebrity lives do not have to be all trash in the media. Enjoy each other, fellowship, pray together.
