The actor is still trying to make amends since his highly documented 2006 post-DUI, anti-Semitic rant.

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 2/14/08 – Actor-director Mel Gibson is apparently making progress following his 2006 DUI arrest, during which he reportedly made anti-Semitic remarks towards an on-duty sheriff’s deputy.
After the incident, Gibson’s lawyers reached a no-contest plea deal, and he was charged with a misdemeanor offense. He agreed to pay nearly $1600 in fines, attend Alcoholics Anonymous seminars, and serve three years of probation.
On Wednesday, Judge Lawrence Mira cited the progress on Gibson’s behalf, and declared that the “Braveheart” star will no longer be required to report to Superior Court.
“Assuming there is no violation on the terms of the probation, it will be finished at the end of 36 months,” said Deputy District Attorney Gina Satriano.
Gibson still faces a long road ahead, including another 18-month stint on probation.
Despite various apologies to the Jewish community, Satriano told reporters that Gibson also plans to take part in a public service announcement.
Having attended numerous AA sessions in the past year, Gibson participated in a 90-day program for DUI offenders as well.
