HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 1/22/08 – Where can you find Barbra Streisand, Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie, Warren Beatty & Annette Beatty, and Mayor Villaraigosa in one night? No, it’s not the Oscars, but an event with some serious star wattage, the Los Angeles Art Show.
This week, Santa Monica will be buzzing with A+ listers, government officials, and tastemakers as the 13th Annual Los Angeles Art Show kicks-off. The opening night gala set for Wednesday, January 23 is a benefit for “Phantom Sightings: Art After The Chicano Movement,” which will open at LACMA this spring.
Last year, over 4,000 art lovers flocked to the LA Art Show. Mayor Villaraigosa is the 2008 honorary chair. The LA Art Show has become a landmark event – the most comprehensive fine art show on the west coast. “It is a privilege to be a part of what has become such a culturally monumental event in our city and a pleasure to simultaneously contribute to the LACMA Latino Arts Initiative,” states Villaraigosa.
The LA Art Show is presented by the Fine Art Dealers Association (FADA) and will offer more than 125 exhibitors from all over the world. After the big opening night party, there will be four days of popular satellite events surrounding some of the world’s best art made available for purchase. The gala also features amazing food catered from the greatest Los Angeles area restaurants. There will be a V.I.P preview at 6 PM, with the gala opening up to ticket purchasers at 7 PM til 10 PM. It runs from January 23-27, 2008.
But the art festivities don’t end at the Barkar Hangar event. On Thursday evening, January 24, ARTLA 2008 launches at the nearby Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. This gala is designed to benefit the Hammer Museum’s Hammer projects. An illustrious group of folks head up the opening night committee including Amy Adelson & Dean Valentine, Jeanne & Arthur Cohen, Linda & Bob Gersh and more.
ARTLA 2008 says is proud to be at The Santa Monica Civic – because the building is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Tim Fleming, director of Art LA said, “This is an exiting moment in Los Angeles as the city has become an important and internationally recognized center for art, making more and more prominent contemporary art galleries, and visual artists are based in Los Angeles, and the quality of work being produced in LA continues to garner international attention.” Indeed.
ARTLA, the new Los Angeles International Contemporary Art Fair, announces its final list of participants including ACE Gallery (Los Angeles), Anton Kern (New York), Herald St. (London), and Taka Ishii Gallery (Tokyo).
