HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 11/2/07 – Notorious TV bounty hunter Duane “Dog” Chapman has been betrayed by his son Tucker after a heated argument over his son’s girlfriend, getting the family show suspended.
While the family is definitely portrayed as rough and tumble on the show, the clan seemed close when it came to family loyalty and love.
However, the “Dog” and his son Tucker had a major falling out that showed his son’s true colors.
“I guess because of whatever level of anger he had for his father, he felt the need to express it in that manner,” said attorney Brook Hart to the Associated Press.
The National Enquirer posted an audio tape on Wednesday in which the “Dog” and his son were in argued heavily about Tucker’s African American girlfriend. But “Dog’s” temper betrayed him when he repeatedly used the N-word.
Next time he may want to use another kind of word like the B or C-word and he will not have this kind of trouble in their Hawaiian home paradise.
Chapman made an extensive apology to both his son and the girlfriend after the story ran. But, Chapman did not learn about his son’s role in the leak until after the apology. That betrayal by his own kin must have hurt the star of the hit show “Dog the Bounty Hunter.”
A&E suspended production of the show saying that the network takes these matters very seriously.
“When the inquiry is concluded, we will take appropriate action,” spokesman Michael Feeney said in a statement Thursday.
The show, which features most of “Dog’s” family including Tucker, is in its fifth season and is also one of A&E’s top-rated programs.
“I have never seen anything that suggests he judges people by the color of their skin or racial background or anything but on their character,” said Hart. “Duane lost his composure and made very, very inappropriate remarks, for which he truly regrets.”
Hart said his client is not a racist and will never utter the N-word again.
The show does generally show the “Dog” and his wife to be decent and fair people, who often give their cons the benefit of the doubt whenever possible. They’ve helped individuals of all colors on the show who’ve been down on their luck.
The Honolulu resident first gained notoriety after apprehending serial rapist Andrew Luster across the Mexican border back in 2003.
