HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 10/18/07 – The Promises Treatment Center in Malibu continues to attract celebrities battling addiction, but its latest client is not the usual teenager or twenty-something.
John Goodman, 55, checked himself out of the facility on Wednesday after seeking help for an undisclosed problem. Television audiences know Goodman for his portrayal of Dan Conner on the long-running hit sitcom, “Roseanne.”
While his reasons for attending a program at Promises are still unclear, Goodman believes his stay was successful.
“For my family and myself, I voluntarily took the necessary steps to remain sober the rest of my life,” he said in a statement issued by publicist Stan Rosenfield.
Although substance abuse is often connected with Hollywood’s rising young talent, it is an issue that affects A-List celebrities of all ages. Last year, Oscar Winner Robin Williams relapsed after maintaining his sobriety for 20 years. Musician Billy Joel has struggled with alcohol abuse as well, seeking treatment at the Betty Ford Center in 2005.
Goodman wrapped the upcoming animated adventure “Bee Movie” in July, lending his voice alongside Jerry Seinfeld and Renee Zellweger. His other film credits include “Evan Almighty,” “The Big Lebowski,” and “The Flintstones.”
