HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 10/10/07—Hip-hop performer Lil’ Wayne was arrested following a concert in Boise, Idaho after police caught wind of his outstanding arrest warrant.
The warrant was issued in Atlanta after the rapper failed to show up for two court hearings over a 2005 charge for possession of marijuana.
Idaho police arrested Lil’ Wayne at approximately 10 p.m., after his performance at Qwest Arena.
Born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., Lil’ Wayne was charged with “being a fugitive” and spent a night in Ada County Jail.
He was thereafter released on $10,000 bond. “We were quite shocked,” said attorney Stacey Richman, “because when he was originally arrested, his counsel told him his case was dismissed”, according to E!Online.
According to Richman, Wayne had no idea that the judge put out a warrant for his arrest.
Lil’ Wayne was initially expected to remain behind bars in Idaho until officials could transport him to Georgia, however the stipulation changed.
Richman contacted the case judge and prosecutors so that Lil’ Wayne could be released, promising that Lil’ Wayne would show up to Fulton County courthouse some time this week.
“It was the judge’s direction that he be released so he could make his show,” said Richman, according to E!Online. “He’s never missed a concert or a hearing.”
Lil’ Wayne’s Saturday performance for the Gods of Hip-Hop Comedy Tour was at the University of Oregon and the jail had even received numerous phone calls from with angry fans and event promoters pleading for the entertainer’s release so he could make the show.
“Several phone calls from fans […] directly involved with him [Lil’ Wayne] were nothing courteous,” said an Ada County jail spokeswoman, according to E!Online.
To the disappointment of fans, “Weezy”, the rapper’s other nickname, was not able to make the show as he was not released until about 7 p.m.
Lil’ Wayne was arrested in Atlanta last year after he was caught with marijuana and more than 100 Xanax and Hydrocodone pills. A jury charged him with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
The rapper is nominated for several BET Hip-Hop Awards this month, including Hip-Hop MVP of the Year and Hip-Hop CD of the Year,
