HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 9/16/07 — Originally considered a bit of an underdog in the running for Outstanding Comedy Series at the 59th Annual Emmy Awards, “30 Rock” emerged as the winner at tonight’s show.

As a surprise to some, “30 Rock” beat the favorite, “The Office,” for its win. The other shows nominated in the category were “Entourage,” “Two and a Half Men” & “Ugly Betty,” all of which had wins in early categories.

“30 Rock” also won with Elaine Stritch as Outstanding Guest Actress for “Hiatus.” But Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey didn’t take home the coveted statues for comedy acting.

On the air now for two seasons, “30 Rock” is about a character named Liz Lemon, played by Tina Fey, head writer of the sketch comedy show “The Girlie Show.” Fey’s character must deal with an arrogant boss Jack Donaghy played by Alec Baldwin and a crazy star, played by Tracy Morgan, all while trying to run a successful TV show without losing her mind.

The show and its cast have been nominated for awards across the board; Tina Fey won a Gracie Allen Award for Outstanding Female Lead in a Comedy Series Alec Baldwin won several awards for the show, including a Golden Globe for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor in a Comedy Series.

After tonight’s big win, “30 Rock” will no longer be considered the related to the not-so-lucky “Studio 60 on Sunset Strip.”
