HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 8/27/07 — Owen Wilson was reported in good condition Monday at Cedars Sinai Hospital, a day after he was taken from his home by ambulance, a spokeswoman said.

“I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time,” the “Wedding Crashers” actor said in a statement released through publicist Ina Treciokas, who said no further statements were expected.

He “is here in good condition,” said Cedars-Sinai hospital spokeswoman Cynthia Harding. He was initially taken to St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica.

The National Enquirer reported he had “superficially” slashed his left wrist and taken an undetermined number of pills. That has not been confirmed.

In fact, he had been spotted enjoying the Southern California beach life as recently as this weekend. He was spotted coming out of the surf in Venice Beach by an observer, Aurora Eklund, who had happened to see him the day before at an art gallery in the area. “He looked forlorn,” she said.

Wilson neighbor in Santa Monica told the media that a police car, fire truck and ambulance were outside the actor’s gated house around noon Sunday.

“These guys were kind of taking their time taking a stretcher out of the ambulance, then they went into the house,” said neighbor Geoffry White, 61, who lives directly across the street.

Wilson recently broke up with girlfriend Kate Hudson.

His brothers, Luke and Andrew, and his parents visited him at Cedars.

The National Enquirer Web site was reporting that sources told the Enquirer and Star magazines that the actor had sliced his left wrist and taken an indeterminate amount of pills in a suicide attempt.

Santa Monica Fire Battalion Chief Jose Torres said Monday the department responded to a call that involved Wilson. The chief wouldn’t comment on Wilson’s injuries or condition, citing federal privacy laws.

Wilson’s screen credits include “Wedding Crashers” and “You, Me and Dupree.” He was nominated for a screenwriting Oscar for 2001’s “The Royal Tenenbaums.”
