HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 6/19/07 – Jon Voight and his daughter Angelina Jolie appear to only speak to each other in the press. Last year Voight said he wanted his daughter to get help for “serious mental problems.” Now he sends another message in the press that “I heard you were wonderful in “Mighty Heart” and I send my love.”

The Oscar winning actor had better luck mentoring Shia LaBeouf during the filming of “The Transformers.” “This kid can do it. He’s bright and witty has a sincere searching quality that makes you step right into his shoes.”

LaBeouf is about to appear in George Lucas and Steven Spielberg’s “Indiana Jones 4″ and as such, gets extra attention in Hollywood. Voight had help in watching out for the boy from another award-winning actor John Turturro. “John and I have a great affection for Shia we were like his uncles on this film we felt we were connected to Shia in a special way. We were looking out for the kid, Shia is a big talent. I knew this was a big moment for his career this is a special boy and a special moment for him.”

Jon reflects on his new film “September Dawn,” which he portrayed as a “a very harsh story of a Christian wagon train in 1857 that is attacked killing all the men, women and child, in a ritual murder. He went on to say “This was religious fanaticism.” Jon draws comparisons from then to now a hundred years and still the fight goes on, Less we forget”.

As for his relationship with Jolie, he said he was not sure if he would see his grandchildren. “I hope so,” I’m always available I am a tremendous grandfather.”
