“I wanted to feel like going back to basics… and having just a completely different experience,” Bloom told Reuters.
Following the lead of “Harry Potter’s” Daniel Radcliffe who appeared in the controversial “Equus” in a recent theater stint, Bloom is taking a break from playing elves and pirates on film to appear in a revival of “In Celebration” by British playwright David Storey, due to open in July.
“It just felt like I wanted to get back into the driver’s seat of my career and my life, and part of that is coming back to what I have known in the past… really solidifying the foundation of my working career,” he said.
The British actor said theater was his original plan after graduating from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, but a big break in Hollywood couldn’t be ignored and once he started the ball kept rolling.

Beyond this production Bloom’s hiatus from film is indefinite, but he clarified that he would not rule out making a fourth “Pirates” film at a later date.
“It’s been an incredible ride for everyone involved,” he said. “Who knows what the future holds. Right now I can’t even think about that.”
