HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 5/13/07 – “Spider-Man 3” still had had the goods during its second weekend, raking in an estimated $60 million to secure the number one spot according to boxofficemojo.com. The conflicted superhero and his pals faced little competition from Friday’s new openers.

Horror sequel “28 Weeks Later” landed at second for its opening week. Playing in 2303 theaters, the zombie flick earned an estimated $10 million.

Another opener, “Georgia Rule,” didn’t attract audiences despite the public’s preoccupation with one of its stars, Lindsay Lohan. The family drama stars Lohan, Felicity Huffman, and Jane Fonda as three generations of a very dysfunctional family. “Georgia” made a mediocre showing at third, bringing in about $5.9 million despite being unveiled in over 2500 theaters nationwide.

Shia LaBeouf’s “Disturbia” dropped two spots to number four with its $4.8 million, bringing the teen thriller’s four week total to about $66.3 million.

Lionsgate’s “Delta Farce” generated enough laughs to reach number five, earning a estimated $3.5 million its first weekend. The war spoof stars “Blue Collar Comedy’s” Larry the Cable Guy as a soldier who thinks he’s in Iraq, but really is in Mexico.

Other holdovers included supernatural thriller “The Invisible” that managed to scare up $2.2 million from crowds for sixth place while British police parody “Hot Fuzz” held court at the number seven spot with its estimated $1.7 mil. Nicholas Cage’s psychic action flick “Next” fell three spots to number eight, bringing in an estimated $1.6 million in its third week.

Rounding out the top ten was the dynamic duo of Disney’s “Meet the Robinsons” and Will Ferrell comedy “Blades of Glory.” For the past seven weeks the two films have refused to leave top 10. This week “Robinsons” snagged the ninth spot with $1.6 million while Ferrell ice-skating farce hung on at number ten with a decent $1.4 million, bringing its gross earnings to about $113.8 million.

“Spider-Man 3” will face its first formidable opponent with the debut of DreamWorks “Shrek the Third” this coming weekend, followed by “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” on Memorial Day weekend. Regardless of who’s left standing when the box office dust settles, its sure to be a record-breaking month for the theaters.
