HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 4/22/07 – Two of the hottest young actors on the scene faced off this weekend and teen thriller “Disturbia” starring Shia LaBeouf scared away the competition, earning $13.5 million this weekend to keep the top spot.

New Line’s psychological thriller “Fracture” broke in at number two with an estimated $11.2 million for it’s opening weekend. “Fracture” stars Anthony Hopkins as a devious defendant who commits the “perfect” crime and another red hot young actor Ryan Gosling playing the L.A. prosecutor who wants justice served.

There’s no stopping Will Ferrell’s crowd-pleasing comedy “Blades of Glory”, as it only fell one spot from last week. “Blades” brought in about $7.8 million in it’s 4th week, to secure fourth place, giving it the scores needed to pass the $100 million magic mark.

Horror-flick “Vacancy” kept some theaters occupied, pulling in $7.6 million to secure the fourth spot. The frightening tale stars Luke Wilson and Kate Beckinsale as an on-the-rocks couple who fight for their lives in a sadistic motel.

Rounding out the top five is stalwart “Meet the Robinsons” that’s still got the kid vote with its $7.1 million this weekend, bringing its gross total to a very respectable $82 million and defying Disney critics.

Brit comedy “Hot Fuzz”, which opened only on 825 screens, still managed to snag No.6. Having already grossed $48 million overseas, “Fuzz” earned an estimated $5.8 million in its stateside release with audiences no doubt eager to see the latest pic from the same team who created cult fave “Shaun of the Dead.” It also scored a very high $7,000 per screen average, another indicator of its popularity here.

Ice Cube’s family flick “Are We Done Yet?” slipped a few spots to number seven with its weekend total topping at $5.2 million and a total so far of $40 million.

Starring Adam Brody, “In the Land of Women” attracted a modest audience in its first week. Coming in at eight, “Women” garnered $4.9 million, probably from “The O.C.” actor‘s female fans. Brody plays a disillusioned L.A. hipster who relocates to his grandma’s home in Michigan to nurse his broken heart, but ends up intertwined in the lives of the women next door, played by Meg Ryan and Kristin Stewart.

Rounding out the top ten were Halle Berry’s “Perfect Stranger” and ensemble guy comedy “Wild Hogs”. “Stranger” experienced this week’s biggest drop landing at number nine with $4.1 million. “Hogs” showed longevity as it still hung on at number ten in its eighth week. The four man road-trip brought in a decent $2.9 million, bringing its gross earning to over $156 million.

All in all, it was a slow movie weekend, but no doubt audiences are gearing up (and saving up) for a tour de force summer that will include the likes of “Spider-Man 3”, “Ocean’s 13”, and a “Pirates” sequel, among others.
