Crow takes on Rove
HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 4/22/07 — Karl Rove heated up Earth Day headlines by fighting with two well-known earth mothers at a black-tie Washington dinner last night.
“You work for me,” Sheryl Crow told Rove.
“No,” said President Bush’s deputy chief of staff. “I work for the American people.”
Of course Crow, the cancer survivor and platinum-selling singer who has just finished a Global Warming college tour with Laurie David, is a citizen too. And one privileged enough to be at the annual White House Correspondents Assn. Dinner, where she spied Rove at the New York Times table.
The altercation reportedly began when Laurie David, producer of “Inconvenient Truth” and wife of Larry David (“Seinfeld,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm”), approached Rove to ask him to take another look at global warming.
“I am floored by what I just experienced with Karl Rove,” David said later. “I went over to him and said, I urge you to take a new look at global warming. He went zero to 100 with me. … I’ve never had anyone be so rude.”
Crow initially interfered to try to quell the quickly heating argument, only to be eventually drawn in to the altercation.
“Don’t touch me,” Rove barked as Crow touched is arm in order to get his attention after Rove had tried to ignore their questions, according to Crow and David’s blog in the Huffington Post.
Rove told the two women that the U.S. spends more money researching global warming than any other country. The duo argued that the scientific research on global warming had proven global warming’s existence and that more should be done actively by the federal government to combat the phenomenon.
Rove then tried to finger the blame on China, who he said was doing less than the United States to combat global warming.
According to Rove, “She came over to insult me, and she succeeded.” Regardless of who initiated the altercation, with the public scrutiny of everything Rove already growing by the day, picking fights with prominent female entertainers is not going to win him any new friends.
Rove has been linked to nearly every scandal surrounding the Bush administration; most recently he has been linked to the firings of eight U.S. Attorneys.
The duo sounded a call of duty after the incident. “If this administration cared one iota about the American people, they would have addressed this problem long ago, and the sad reality is that this problem has been left to us, all of us, since the current administration has abandoned this issue entirely. In the absence of true leadership, we must guide ourselves.”
