Spider-Man musical in the works with U2 behind the music

Bono thinks
HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 4/20/07 – Having conquered gremlins and box offices, Spider-Man’s next big move will be to Broadway. The Marvel web-slinger’s story will be transformed into a musical with music and lyrics by none other than U2’s Bono and the Edge.
The recently knighted Bono and the Edge were last involved with a comic book adaptation in 1995 when U2 supplied the song “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me” for the “Batman Forever” soundtrack. Though Bono’s been keeping busy with his humanitarian work, he’s clearly willing to make time for Spidey.
Also clearing her schedule is Tony-award winner Julie Taymor, best known for her work on “The Lion King”. Taymor will direct the show that will include roles for Peter Parker, Mary Jane, spider-woman Arachne and super scientist Norman Osborn, among others. Rehearsals are scheduled for this summer, and no debut date has been set.
This show will mark the first time a Marvel character has been the subject of a Broadway musical. Sam Raimi’s third “Spider-Man” film starring Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, swings into theaters May 4.
We think Bono is taking the time cuz his shades have always been modeled after Spidey’s eye holes.
