after plea bargain

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 4/11/07 – Hip-hop star Snoop Doog was rapped on the knuckles in court today and avoided four years in the pound by pleading no contest to felony gun and drug charges.

The man helping out at the local senior center may be the multi-platinum music and film star, who agreed to 800 hours of community service and five years’ probation. He did public service announcements for cocaine and gun charges in 1990, but more of those are unlikely to fill the service hours required in this instance, and he certainly wants to avoid cleaning freeways.

Some observers think Snoop may be getting a bum rap in Burbank as charges stemmed from two separate occasions in that film and TV production town. It may have lost some sheen as a celebrity-friendly place since word got out that Burbank police not only searched his house after an airport pot bust, but laid in wait for him at a Jay Leno taping.

On Oct. 26 Snoop, born Calvin Broadus Jr., was arrested on suspicion of transportation of a controlled substance at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank. Burbank police with a warrant searched the rapper’s home on Nov. 28 and found a gun. As a result, Snoop was arrested after appearing on “The Tonight Show” that night and was found to be in possession of cocaine, a firearm and a large amount of marijuana.

As if that weren‘t enough, the rapper is awaiting a May 15 hearing in Orange County on a felony charge of carrying a collapsible baton, which authorities consider a dangerous weapon, into John Wayne Airport last September

The rapper said he did not know the object was illegal and that it was going to be used as a prop in a video he was to film in New York.
