Mark Ruffalo, who is getting raves for his portrayal of real life “Zodiac” cop Dave Toschi, spent time with the troubled former homicide investigator. He said the flamboyant detective is still haunted by the serial killer case that ruined his career amid speculation that he might be involved in the killings themselves.  “It’s a wound in his life that will never heal and he carries to his grave. He has dealt with it with great dignity, and him and his family has moved on from it. They have assimilated it with grace into their lives but it is constantly there. Dave never came up from Pawnshop duty; he was being groomed to be the Chief of Police. This guy was a good cop. What happened with all the speculation that he might’ve been the Zodiac; he had the stink on him and it never left. It was a huge thing to get over.” (Gayl Murphy)
