Jagger, Scorsese get satisfaction
HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 2/27/07 — Fresh off the red carpet, Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese is re-teaming with rocker/actor Mick Jagger to direct and produce “The Long Play” for Paramount. “The Departed” Oscar-winning scribe Bill Monahan is set to do the scripting honors.
“The Long Play” is set in the world of the music business, spanning over three decades and is based on Jagger’s concept, which he took to Scorsese several years ago. Together they developed the project and brought it to Paramount after Disney turned it down.
The much in-demand Monahan is also re-teaming with Leonardo DiCarpro for the thriller “Confessions of Pain.” It’s based on a film by the original “The Departed” creators Al Mak, Andrew Lau and Felix Chong.
This is the second movie/music venture for Jagger and Scorsese. They recently collaborated on a Rolling Stones feature length concert documentary shot at The Beacon theater in New York scheduled to be released in the Fall.
Both the rocker and the director have successfully dipped into movie/music projects before. In 2005, Scorsese directed and produced the Emmy and Grammy Award-winning documentary “No Direction Home: Bob Dylan.” And of course, he made what is considered the most influential rockumentary ever, “The Last Waltz.”
Jagger formed Jagged Films with Victoria Pearman and are currently prepping the remake of “The Women,” written and to be directed by Diane English. They have also teamed with Luc Besson’s Europa to produce an animated feature called “Ruby Tuesday.” Jagger’s film company produced the award-winning “Enigma” and the recently completed documentary on President Clinton¹s Global Initiative. Jagger’s company is also the executive producer on ABC TV’s “Knights of Prosperity”.
