SAG Attendees do get to see a reunion of “Mary Tyler Moore” cast

Meryl Streep, who is nominated for a SAG Award for her portrayal of fashion magazine editor Miranda Priestly in “The Devil Wears Prada,” will not attend the 13th Annual SAG Awards this Sunday.

But she has a royal excuse. That evening she will be in New York with former Vice President Al Gore to present Prince Charles with an award for his pro-environment activities. Traveling with HRH Prince of Wales on this trip across the pond is his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. For their part, Gore and Streep have another date next month at the Oscars where “Prada” and Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” are up for kudos.

Oddly enough, Streep has never won a SAG Award for her films, though she has two Academy Awards and four Golden Globes specifically for her legendary big screen work. She has been nominated by her fellow actors nine times for SAG honors, though only won once in the TV field for HBO’s “Angels in America.”

Noting that the Harvard event was planned for a year she said she could not renege on her promise to present Harvard Medical School Center for Health and the Global Environment’s Center’s Global Citizen award to H.R.H. The Prince of Wales for his outstanding commitment to sound environmental stewardship. “I am honored to be nominated and wish I could be there to celebrate with my fellow SAG members” said Streep.

SAG attendees will get a taste of television royalty when the cast of revered series “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” reunites to present best TV comedy ensemble honors. Moore will be joined by Ed Asner, Valerie Harper, Cloris Leachman, Betty White Georgia Engel and Gavin MacLeod. Also set to appear on the show will be Alec Baldwin, Annette Bening, Steve Carell, Patrick Dempsey, America Ferrera, Teri Hatcher, Anne Hathaway, Ashton Kutcher, Julia Louis Dreyfus, Kevin Nealon, Sandra Oh, Matthew Perry, SAG President Alan Rosenberg, Kyra Sedgwick, William Shatner, Kiefer Sutherland, Dick Van Dyke, Forest Whitaker and Reese Witherspoon.

13th Annual SAG Awards™ Ceremonies will be simulcast Sunday, Jan. 28, on TNT and TBS at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
